Three Tips for Time Management
Here are some helpful tips to help you get back into that busy fall schedule!
Set up a routine and stick with it!
- Try coming up with a routine for each day of the week and block off times during the day to be able to set aside for essential tasks.
Set Deadlines
- It might be an important idea to give yourself deadlines for tasks. As students, we have syllabi, so we naturally know when stuff is due. Get a calendar (Google calendar or a regular paper one) and write when assignments are due. You can stick with what was given or write down your own deadlines when you want things to be done. Make sure the goals are reasonable, though, and go with your schedule/ routine that you have made.
Break things down into tasks
- It’s a lot to try and do everything at once or sit down and focus for long periods. Try doing 20 minutes of studying and 20 minutes of a break (or however long you like). Sometimes we overwhelm ourselves with trying to sit down for hours to complete tasks, which burns us out.
Budgeting as a Student:
Credit Cards
- May want to avoid it, BUT if you can’t, select a credit card that will offer you benefits when you spend.
Apps!
- Duh, of course, there are apps to help you budget. The consensus on the street these days are two apps called Mint for IOS and Spendee for Andriod/IOS. The great things about these two apps are that they allow you to link to your bank account so that you can easily double-check what you are spending money on and track your income.
Find a Support Group
- Find other students, classmates, roommates, or friends you can all split things with, even textbooks cost. You can even take turns cooking or splitting different transportation costs.
Coping Strategies:
FIND TIME TO RELAX
- I get it. We’re all busy but trying to find time to relax and not do any schoolwork is so important! It’ll help with not getting burned out quickly and allowing yourself to have a bit of a life. Whatever relaxing means to you, do it.
Positive Writing
- I usually try and use the word “positive writing†because not everyone wants to journal but hey, if you’re into it, go for it. Sometimes we just need to write down why are doing what we are doing in the hopes that it will remind us why we decided to take this journey, to begin with. Writing down all the things that are positive and going in your day are also helpful to do. Reading or writing positive things can boost our mood.
Acceptance
- Sometimes the only thing that we can do is just accept a situation or a moment for what it is. Letting go and realizing that we’re not all superman and can do ten things at once is ok! You do what you can in the time that you have. Don’t push yourself too much. You’re only one person.
