FAQ

Children, Adolescents/ teens and adults (Age 5 to 65+)

Where Am I Licensed

I am licensed in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and soon Delaware.

How do I know if therapy is right for me or my child?

For adults, therapy can help if you’re feeling overwhelmed, stressed, uncertain about life decisions, or struggling with relationships or personal growth.

For children, therapy can be beneficial if they have trouble with emotions, school, friendships, or self-confidence.

Concern (Adults): “What if my challenges aren’t serious enough for therapy?”
Answer: Therapy isn’t just for crises. Many adults come in for general stress, transitions, or personal development.

Concern (Parents): “What if my child’s behavior is just a phase?”
Answer: Some behaviors are part of growing up, but if emotions or actions affect school, friendships, or family life, therapy can help them develop healthy coping skills.

What should I expect in my (or my child’s) first therapy session?

For adults, the first session is a conversation about your background, challenges, and goals.

For children, I may first meet with a parent to understand their concerns and provide guidance on how therapy will be structured.

Concern (Adults): “Will I have to share everything immediately?”
Answer: No, we go at your pace. You decide what you’re comfortable discussing.

Concern (Parents): “What if my child doesn’t want to talk?”
Answer: That’s normal. I use play-based and creative techniques to help kids express themselves naturally.

How do I choose the right therapist for myself or my child?

Finding a therapist who understands your needs and makes you feel comfortable is essential. I specialize in working with adults and children, using age-appropriate methods to support each client.

Concern (Adults): “What if I don’t connect with my therapist?”
Answer: A good fit is essential. If you don’t feel comfortable after a few sessions, we can discuss adjustments or referrals.

Concern (Parents): “What if my child doesn’t open up?”
Answer: Kids may take time to feel safe in therapy. I focus on building trust through activities, storytelling, and interactive techniques.

How long does therapy take for adults and children?

The length of therapy for adults depends on personal goals. Some come for short-term problem-solving, while others benefit from long-term sessions. For children, therapy length depends on their needs, development, and response to sessions.

Concern (Adults): “I don’t want to be in therapy forever.”
Answer: Therapy is goal-driven. Many adults find that even short-term sessions provide valuable insights.

Concern (Parents): “How will I know when my child is ready to stop therapy?”
Answer: We’ll monitor progress together, and I’ll provide guidance on when therapy might naturally conclude.

Is therapy confidential for adults and children?

Therapy is fully confidential for adults. For children, I balance privacy with parental updates. I won’t share every detail, but I will communicate progress and any concerns.

Concern (Adults): “Can my employer or family find out I’m in therapy?”
Answer: No, therapy is confidential unless you choose to share that information.

Concern (Parents): “Will I know everything my child says in therapy?”
Answer: Children need privacy to open up. I share general themes and progress while ensuring they feel safe. If there are safety concerns, I will always involve you.

Do I or my child need a mental health diagnosis to go to therapy?

No. Many adults and children seek therapy for personal growth, stress management, and emotional support, even without a formal diagnosis.

Concern (Adults): “Will I be labeled if I go to therapy?”
Answer: No, therapy is about self-improvement, not labeling.

Concern (Parents): “Will therapy put a permanent record on my child?”
Answer: Therapy is private and won’t follow them into school records or future opportunities.

What if I (or my child) don’t feel comfortable talking?

It’s normal to feel unsure. For adults, I guide conversations at your comfort level. For children, I use creative activities and storytelling to help them express feelings nonverbally.

Concern (Adults): “I’ve never been to therapy. What if I don’t know what to say?”
Answer: That’s okay! I’ll ask open-ended questions and help you explore your thoughts.

Concern (Parents): “What if my child refuses to participate?”
Answer: I use interactive techniques to engage children in fun and non-intimidating ways.

What types of therapy do you offer for adults and children?

I provide therapy tailored to different age groups:

For adults: I focus on stress management, personal development, self-esteem, and coping strategies.

For children: I use play therapy, art-based techniques, and structured activities to help with emotions, friendships, coping strategies, self-esteem, and confidence.

Concern (Adults): “What if I don’t like traditional talk therapy?”
Answer: I use creative approaches that go beyond just talking.

Concern (Parents): “What if my child doesn’t understand therapy?”
Answer: I make therapy age-appropriate so it feels natural and engaging.

How often should I (or my child) go to therapy?

For adults, we decide on a schedule based on your goals, weekly, biweekly, or as needed. For children, weekly sessions are often helpful initially, with adjustments as they progress.

Concern (Adults): “What if I have a busy schedule?”
Answer: We can create a flexible plan that works for you, including telehealth options.

Concern (Parents): “Will my child need therapy forever?”
Answer: My goal is to equip children with the tools they need to succeed independently.

What if I (or my child) am unsure about therapy?

That’s completely okay. If you’re unsure, I offer a consultation so we can discuss concerns before making a commitment.

Concern (Adults): “What if therapy doesn’t help me?”
Answer: Everyone’s experience is different. We’ll tailor therapy to your needs, and if adjustments are needed, I’ll make them.

Concern (Parents): “What if my child doesn’t like therapy?”
Answer: It can take time. If something isn’t working, we’ll modify our approach to make it more engaging.
